Friday Proverb – The Wicked Will Always Counter Attack

Did you ever feel that every time something good happens – something bad follows?  There is a reason behind that – and his name is Satan.  Since the beginning, he has mustered a response for every movement the Lord has made.    A close examination of the church ages, shows  Satan made a counter attack at each significant uprising of the church.  The same thing happens in individual lives, and in the national and international arena. 

Proverbs 11:11

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted:

In every instance, even following the 1st and 2nd Great Awakenings – Satan has launched a counter attack almost immediately. What was the evil one’s response to the Age of Missions, Great Awakenings, and the Philadelphia Church Age?   False philosophies, and cults.  Higher “criticism,” Darwinism, progressive education, and Freudian psychology.  On top of those four philosophies, which have infiltrated the education system – the major cults also rose during this time.  Mormonism, 7th Day Adventism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christian Science,  Unitarianism, and Armstrongism.  Every single one – still active and growing in this time.

but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.   

We should not be disheartened or discouraged when the president vetoes the bill we want passed, or a judge overturns a pro-life, or pro-traditional marriage bill.  A close study of the Bible and secular history reveals that the tide of evil will always thwart the upright, and will continue to do so until the Lord Jesus Christ returns to set things right.  This is why beloveds – the evil one is working so hard, because he knows his time is short!  Liberals and progressives may be riding high now – but I would not want to be in their shoes for anything in the world.  Their victory is only temporary.  Very temporary.

Revelation 20:11-15

Not since ancient times, has immorality been elevated and revered in such a widespread fashion.  Day after day, we are deluged with the advance of the gay agenda.  Those who love the Lord and His Perfect Word can now identify with Lot – we are now the minority  living among them . . .

Walmart offers benefits to same sex partners –

(USA Today) In what the largest U.S. gay rights group calls a “historic move,” Walmart told employees Monday that it would extend its health and other benefits to “domestic partners” of employees, including partners of the same sex.

The largest U.S. employer made the announcement quietly in a postcard it sent to employees that listed five other changes in benefits, including a new vision plan.

Research by the Human Rights Campaign shows 62% of Fortune 500 companies already offer domestic partner benefits. But the Supreme Court’s June decision overturning part of a federal law that denied federal benefits to legally married same-sex partners has heightened attention on same-sex benefits.

And just today, the IRS has announced tax benefits to married gay couples –

“Today’s ruling provides certainty and clear, coherent tax filing guidance for all legally married same-sex couples nationwide. It provides access to benefits, responsibilities and protections under federal tax law that all Americans deserve,” Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said in a written statement.

Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin said that, because of today’s ruling, “committed and loving gay and lesbian married couples will now be treated equally under our nation’s federal tax laws, regardless of what state they call home.” 

He added, “These families finally have access to crucial tax benefits and protections previously denied to them under the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act.”

Now you see the results of 100 years of progressive education, with each generation becoming more and more liberal, and farther and farther  from God.  The term “Laodicea,” is derived from the words  “laity,” and “dice,” which can mean either justice or vengeance, or both, as the case may be.   This is the spirit which is dominating the world, and has been for the latter part of the past century. 

At no time in history, has mankind been more obsessed with the rights, or rule of people.  Feminists, unions, homosexuals, minorities – and the United Nations “Rights  of the Child.”

Our founders believed that our rights came from God.  This is an absolute spiritual truth.  “Individual rights”  is an ideology.  The absence of the moral principles found in the Bible, and the selflessness which comes as a result of God’s  teachings, has caused our country to become pagan, with everyone clamoring for their rights.  This is just how anti-Christ will be able to achieve power.   As in the time of Judges, the people will only be concerned with their due – and will demand a king. 

Let’s think about what characterizes American life now:

  • pornography
  • venereal disease
  • increase in technology which leads to
  • affluence
  • abortion
  • illegitimate children
  • occultism
  • corporate crime
  • increase in violent crime
  • homosexuality
  • materialism

At one time the American church was the treasury for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  From 1700-1900, during our nation’s founding, the dominant church spirit was the Philadelphia Church.  Great universities were founded on the Scriptures – Harvard, Yale and Dartmouth, Princeton.   Harvard College was founded to train pastors!  The president of Yale College, in 1795, said “The Bible is the Word of God.”  It was the age of missions, and the First and Second Great Awakenings – in England and America.

Before 1950 – gambling was considered a vice, and pornography and promiscuity were considered disgraceful. 

All of these developments point to the soon return of Jesus Christ.  If you are not “right” with the Lord, there is no time like the present.  Get right with God.  Humble yourself.  Repent and turn towards your Savior.  Stop comparing yourself to others, and compare yourself to Him. 

Maybe you don’t think you’re such a bad person,  after all – you never did those things. That’s called self justification.  Do you think self justification will cover you?  It won’t.  Only the Blood of Jesus Christ will cover you.  He is the only justification available to us.  Your good works won’t mean diddly squat.  Good deeds do not erase bad ones.  

Ask Him now, please Lord Jesus, Please.  I am prideful, and I’ve hurt people.  I’ve lied, and I’ve stolen. I lust, and I covet.  I used Your Name in vain.  Forgive me and save me Lord Jesus. Forgive me for even thinking the way I do.  I know that I can’t save myself and I want to be free from this terrible burden I’m carrying.  Please save me Lord Jesus.   Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit.  I want to be a new creation in You.

If you already know the Lord Jesus, and have received Him as your Savior,  consider rededicating your life to Him right now.  We are in a time of tremendous Spiritual battle now.  Won’t you cast aside all the vain imaginations and lusts that can plague and weigh you down with the sinful world and  its trappings, and prevent you from living fully for Him?

Bible believing Christians understand that the marriage between one man and one woman was ordained by God, and that it is holy and undefiled.  It is the only union of human beings capable of bearing fruit – the blessings of children.  Please consider very carefully the sodomite’s obsession with the part of the body designed for eliminating garbage and waste – the dead parts.

When up to a thousand conservative Christian parents in Germany were protesting against a new pro-homosexual “sexual diversity” curriculum in their schools, homosexuals charged at them and thew human excrement at the Christians. They also ripped pages of the Bible, wiped their anuses with the pages, crumpled them up and threw them at the Christians.

What makes these sodomites so different than Muslims who defecate in churches? The answer is nothing.

According to the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians:

They were spit at, eggs were thrown, and little bags with feces or color. Cables of loud speakers were torn out …Pages were ripped out of the bible and used to wipe backsides, then formed into a ball and thrown at the parents. …Christians were deeply hurt in this process. At least one banner was snatched and destroyed in front of the eyes of the parents. Marshals were target[ed] with pepper sprays. Shouting by counter-demonstrator[s] made the planned public speaking partly impossible.

The police, instead of bringing order, came and took the side of the sodomites, telling the Christian protesters to leave. As the organizers stated:

Police urged the organizers to dissolve the rally, in order ‘to avoid escalation.

This is why we support the current law in Russia in regards to homosexual propaganda. The sodomites must be suppressed in order to prevent their agenda from spreading and taking root in any component of civilized. This is why God gave us this law:

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. (Leviticus 20:13)

But since the Divine Law has been replaced by the dictates of politicians whose souls are seized by the devil, these sodomites “fill the land with violence and continually arouse” the anger of God (Ezekiel 8:17)

St. Peter described governors as “them that are sent by him [God] for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. (1 Peter 2:14) Evildoers would include sodomites, since St. Peter’s moral code would have been from the Divine Law.

In the words of St. Paul when he addressed the sodomites in his Epistle to the Romans:

Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:32)

The sodomites know they do evil, and we as Christians know that the Divine Law must be imposed upon them, or else they will “continue to do these very things”.

After the Ball–Why the Homosexual Movement Has Won

The spectacular success of the homosexual movement stands as one of the most fascinating phenomena of our time. In less than two decades, homosexuality has moved from “the love that dares not speak its name,” to the center of America’s public life. The homosexual agenda has advanced even more quickly than its most ardent proponents had expected, and social change of this magnitude demands some explanation.

A partial explanation of the homosexual movement’s success can be traced to the 1989 publication of After the Ball: How America Will Conquer Its Fear and Hatred of Gays in the 90s. Published with little fanfare, this book became the authoritative public relations manual for the homosexual agenda, and its authors presented the book as a distillation of public relations advice for the homosexual community. A look back at its pages is an occasion for understanding just how successful their plan was.

Authors Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen combined psychiatric and public relations expertise in devising their strategy. Kirk, a researcher in neuropsychiatry, and Madsen, a public relations consultant, argued that homosexuals must change their presentation to the heterosexual community if real success was to be made.

Conceiving their book as a “gay manifesto for the 1990s,” the authors called for homosexuals to repackage themselves as mainstream citizens demanding equal treatment, rather than as a promiscuous sexual minority seeking greater opportunity and influence.

Writing just as the AIDS crisis hit its greatest momentum, the authors saw the disease as an opportunity to change the public mind. “As cynical as it may seem, AIDS gives us a chance, however brief, to establish ourselves as a victimized minority legitimately deserving of America’s special protection and care,” they wrote.

Give them credit: they really did understand the operation of the public mind. Kirk and Madsen called for homosexuals to talk incessantly about homosexuality in public. “Open, frank talk makes gayness seem less furtive, alien, and sinful; more above board,” they asserted. “Constant talk builds the impression that public opinion is at least divided on the subject, and that a sizeable bloc–the most modern, up-to-date citizens–accept or even practice homosexuality.”

Nevertheless, not all talk about homosexuality is helpful. “And when we say talk about homosexuality, we mean just that. In the early stages of the campaign, the public should not be shocked and repelled by premature exposure to homosexual behavior itself. Instead, the imagery of sex per se should be downplayed, and the issue of gay rights reduced, as far as possible, to an abstract social question.”

Portraying homosexuals as victims was essential to their strategy. Offering several principles for tactical advance in their cause, the authors called upon homosexuals to “portray gays as victims of circumstance and depression, not as aggressive challengers.” This would be necessary, they argued, because “gays must be portrayed as victims in need of protection so that straights will be inclined by reflex to adopt the role of protector.”

Such a strategy could, they asserted, lead to something like a “conversion” of the public mind on the question of homosexuality. “The purpose of victim imagery is to make straights feel very uncomfortable; that is, to jam with shame the self-righteous pride that would ordinarily accompany and reward their antigay belligerence, and to lay groundwork for the process of conversion by helping straights identify with gays and sympathize with their underdog status.”

Obviously, this would mean marginalizing some members of the homosexual community. Kirk and Madsen were bold to advise a mainstreaming of the homosexual image. “In practical terms, this means that cocky mustachioed leather-men, drag queens, and bull dykes would not appear in gay commercials and other public presentations. Conventional young people, middle-age women, and older folks of all races would be featured, not to mention the parents and straight friends of gays.” Furthermore, “It cannot go without saying, incidentally, that groups on the farthest margins of acceptability, such as NAMBLA [North American Man-Boy Love Association], must play no part at all in such a campaign. Suspected child molesters will never look like victims.”

What about the origin of sexual orientation? The success of the homosexual movement can be largely traced to the very idea of “orientation” itself. More precisely, homosexuals advanced their cause by arguing that they were born that way. Madsen and Kirk offer this as candid public relations advice. “We argue that, for all practical purposes, gays should be considered to have been born gay–even though sexual orientation, for most humans, seems to be the product of a complex interaction between innate predispositions and environmental factors during childhood and early adolescence.” Alas, “To suggest in public that homosexuality might be chosen is to open the can of worms labeled ‘moral choices and sin’ and give the religious intransigents a stick to beat us with. Straights must be taught that it is as natural for some persons to be homosexual as it is for others to be heterosexual: wickedness and seduction have nothing to do with it.”

There can be no doubt that Christianity represents the greatest obstacle to the normalization of homosexual behavior. It cannot be otherwise, because of the clear biblical teachings concerning the inherent sinfulness of homosexuality in all forms, and the normativity of heterosexual marriage. In order to counter this obstacle, Kirk and Madsen advised gays to “use talk to muddy the moral waters, that is, to undercut the rationalizations that ‘justify’ religious bigotry and to jam some of its psychic rewards.” How can this be done? “This entails publicizing support by moderate churches and raising serious theological objections to conservative biblical teachings. It also means exposing the inconsistency and hatred underlying antigay doctrines.”

Conservative churches, defined by the authors as “homohating” are portrayed as “antiquated backwaters, badly out of step with the times and with the latest findings of psychology.”

A quick review of the last 15 years demonstrates the incredible effectiveness of this public relations advice. The agenda set out by Kirk and Madsen led to nothing less than social transformation. By portraying themselves as mainstream Americans seeking nothing but liberty and self-fulfillment, homosexuals redefined the moral equation. Issues of right and wrong were isolated as outdated, repressive, and culturally embarrassing. Instead, the assertion of “rights” became the hallmark of the public relations strategy.

Other principles offered by the authors included making gays look good by identifying strategic historical figures as being hidden homosexuals, and, on the other hand, making “victimizers” look bad in the public eye. Kirk and Madsen suggested isolating conservative Christians by presenting them as “hysterical backwoods preachers, drooling with hate to a degree that looks both comical and deranged.” They offered a concrete example of how this strategy could be used on television and in print. “For example, for several seconds an unctuous beady-eyed Southern preacher is shown pounding the pulpit in rage against ‘those perverted, abominable creatures.’” While his tirade continues over the soundtrack, the picture switches to heart-rending photos of badly beaten persons, or of gays who look decent, harmless, and likeable; and then we cut back to the poisonous face of the preacher. The contrast speaks for itself. The effect is devastating.”

Public relations is now a major part of the American economy, with hundreds of millions of dollars poured into advertising strategies and image enhancement programs. Observers of the public relations world must look back with slack-jawed amazement at the phenomenal success of the approach undertaken by homosexuals over the last two decades. The advice offered by Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen is nothing less than a manifesto for moral revolution. A look back at this strategy indicates just how self-consciously the homosexual movement advanced its cause by following this plan.

Those who oppose the normalization of homosexuality have indeed been presented as backwoods, antiquated, and dangerous people, while those advancing the cause are presented as forces for light, progress, and acceptance. Conservative Christians have indeed been presented as proponents of hatred rather than as individuals driven by biblical conviction. The unprecedented success of this public relations strategy helps to explain why America has accepted everything from homosexual characters and plotlines in prime-time entertainment to the lack of outrage in response to same-sex marriage in Massachusetts.

At least we know what we are up against. Biblical Christians must continue to talk about right and wrong even when the larger world dismisses morality as an outdated concept. We must maintain marriage as a non-negotiable norm–a union of a man and a woman–even when the courts redefine marriage by fiat. At the same time, we must take into account the transformation of the American mind that is now so devastatingly evident to all who have eyes to see.

The real tragedy of After the Ball is that the great result of this is not a party, but the complete rejection of the very moral foundations which made this society possible. In order to address the most fundamental problems, we must understand the shape of the American mind. Looking back at After the Ball after fifteen years, it all comes into frightening focus.

If you own and watch television, you have been subjected to the Dialectic.  If you read a newspaper, internet, listen to radio, or have attended government grade schools and institutes of higher learning, [sarc] you have been subjected to the Dialectic.  In most large corporations, hirelings are indoctrinated with the Dialectic.  In “seeker-friendly” churches and “Purpose Driven” churches, the Dialectic takes precedence over the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The  Hegelian dialectic  is the framework for guiding  our thoughts and actions into conflicts that lead us to a predetermined solution. If we do not understand  how the Hegelian dialectic shapes our perceptions of the  world, then we do not know how we are helping  to implement the vision.  When we remain locked into dialectical thinking, we cannot  see out of the  box.

Make no mistake about it – the Dialectic is diabolical. And so is its instigator.  His methods have NEVER changed, and the progression of sin is always the same.

  • Pride
  • Rebellion

The evil one still lies today, and people listen to him and turn from the truth.

We never rebel against God unless we first believe a lie.  And it is usually a lie about ourselves.  Once we believe a lie about ourselves, pride takes over, and rebellion against God and His authority ensue.

  • “I know more than  my {parents, boss, teacher, pastor…}!”
  • “Those values/music/Bibles  are so old fashioned!”
  • “I am more beautiful/attractive  than _____!”
  • “I am more talented than ______!”

The doctrine of Satan is ridiculed by the world.  He is portrayed as wearing a red suit, smelling of brimstone, and even holding a pitchfork!  That is not how the Word of God describes him.  In 2 Corinthians 11:14, he is called an”angel of light.”  And in 4:4, he is called the “god of this world.”  Ephesians 2:2 he is the “prince of the power of the air.”  Well – this new FOX television series is proof enough of that!  And the following linked article should quell any doubts about the true purpose of the FOX networks – including the news branch.

This is the image most people, and especially Roman Catholics, are familiar with.  100% repellent.  Sometimes on the cute side, as a “little devil,” other times menacing and hideous. 

Through the use of the Dialectic, here is the Satan of today.  Attractive, charming, and even – moral.  Someone that you might be interested in getting to know.  He’s not evil – he’s edgy!  What could be more appealing?  In the same way Satan has been repackaged for today’s fleshly crowd, so has the Bible, the preachers, and the church of today – Laodicea. 

Revelation 3:13-15

13 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

We truly are living in the last days.  Do you see where this all leads?  First the idea is introduced into popular culture for conditioning of the masses.  Does anyone recall the ridiculous “Uncle Arthur” on the 60’s Tv show – “Bewitched?”

He was the penultimate funny “gay guy.”  He wore a neck scarf and had homosexual affectations, yet he was appealing because he was so funny.  The TV consumer, lets down their guard and the Dialectic has done its job.  Now, we are faced with the worst perversions known to mankind being “normalized” into our society.  Decades of “funny gay guys” leads to not so funny sodomites parading their sin down the streets of our cities. 

I’m not laughing now – are you?  I hope you can see how the Dialectic progresses, and how we got to where we are now.

Five Reasons NOT to Send Your Kids to Public School by Pastor Voddie Baucham

Anyone who has kept up with my blog knows that I am no fan of government education.  I have made it a point to carry The Continuing Collapse on a regular basis, and I try to make biblical, philosophical and theological arguments in favor of Christian education as often as possible.  However, I recognize the obstacles those of us on my side of the street face.  As many as eighty-five to ninety percent of professing Christians send their children to the government for their education.  That is simply an astonishing figure considering the fact that the Christian community fought mandatory government education tooth-and-nail for its first fifty years of existence.  Since then we have gone from fighting against government schools to fighting for them and implying that those who fight against them are fundamentalists, anti-intellectuals, and racists.

In the meantime, our schools grow progressively worse.  As fall approaches, I want to appeal to those of you with children in government schools.  Please don’t send them back!  I beg you to consider what you are doing.  As Dave Black has written: “No academic skepticism, no secularist authors, no blatant materialism can so undermine the spiritual life of the country like the completely secularized training of the child under the authority of the state… Bible-based education is mandatory for Christian parents. If we think we can keep our children in a secular school system and escape the dumbed-down, amoral, and immoral results of secular humanism in schools, we are sorely mistaken (See: http://daveblackonline.com/our.htm).”

This may sound like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many people ask home educators the ‘authority’ questions (i.e., to whom do you report? Who approves your curriculum?).  These questions are the byproduct of statism.  The Gramscian, neo-Marxist influence is so prevalent in our culture that we don’t even recognize it anymore.  We actually believe that children are wards of the state when in fact they are not.  As a result, some people have a hard time believing that they have the right to educate their children in a manner of their choosing.  Well, I’m here to tell you that you are free.  Your children are yours.  They do not belong to Caesar.  You don’t have to take them back to the local government indoctrination center next semester.  And in some states (thank God for Texas), you don’t even have to tell them you’re not coming back!

4. America’s Schools Are Among the Worst in the Industrialized World

One of the issues that many Christians seem willing to ignore is the fact that sending children to American schools represents extremely poor stewardship.  American students continually rank at the bottom in math, science and reading compared to other industrialized nations.  That’s right, our educational system is among the world’s worst!  Of course everyone says, “Our schools are different.”  News flash… that’s a lie!

One of our elders taught honors math at one of the ‘best schools’ in one of the ‘best school districts’ in Texas (you know, one of those schools people lie and cheat to get their children into so that they can get a ‘better education’).  His advanced geometry class was filled with a bunch of imbeciles who could barely do basic arithmetic.  As a result, most of them failed their first major test.  You know what happened next?  The principal called him into the office and told him to make things right.  One of the things he was told was to employ a grading technique called “Square root times ten.”  Thus, a student who made a 49 on a test ended up with a 70 in the grade book (for those of you who went to government schools like me, that’s the square root of 49 times ten).

This is what’s happening at our ‘best’ schools.  Don’t believe me?  Ask a college admissions worker how many students coming from our ‘best’ schools with grade point averages hovering near 4.0 need remediation when they get to college.  It’s an absolute joke.  The overwhelming majority of children in our schools have a B average or above (mostly for self esteem reasons), which serves to give them and their parents a false sense of achievement.  It also results in people who ‘feel really good’ about their schools.

Please don’t buy the lie.  Your child’s school is probably terrible.  If you really care about the stewardship of you child’s mind, don’t send them back to the worst schools in the industrialized world.

3. America’s Schools Are Morally Repugnant

The headlines speak for themselves.  Student-teacher sex scandals, student-student sex, immodesty, foul language, drugs, alcohol, radical homosexual agendas, teachers taking students for abortions, “sexting” leading to suicide, sexually transmitted diseases, brutal beatings, and school shootings.  These are just some of the headlines that have become the norm.  And that does not include things like cheating, disrespect for authority, impropriety towards the opposite sex, and other moral behaviors children learn regularly and repeatedly in school.

Van Til said it better than I ever could: “Non-Christian education puts the child in a vacuum…. The result is that child dies. Christian education alone really nurtures personality because it alone gives the child air and food…. Modern educational philosophy gruesomely insults our God and our Christ. How, then, do you expect to build anything positively Christian or theistic upon a foundation which is the negation of Christianity and theism?…. No teaching of any sort is possible except in Christian schools.”

Moreover, the system itself is funded by virtual theft.  Homeowners are forced under threat of the loss of their property to pay for the education of other people’s children.  How is that appropriate?  The government tells everyone that they have to send their children to school, then tells homeowners that they are going to be the ones to foot the bill whether they like it or not.  Not only is this a form of welfare, it is also a form of theft.

For those of you ready to read me the riot act and yell and scream about paying for roads and bridges, hold on a minute.  Why is it that we get all up-in-arms about our tax dollars being used to fund abortions (while our opponents make the roads and bridges argument), but we don’t see this one?  Our schools are morally repugnant.  They are also neo-Marxist, secular humanist indoctrination centers.  Why should I as a Christian be forced to pay for children to have every vestige of Christianity beaten out of them?  Americans are not forced to pay for Mormon schools, or Muslim schools; why should we be forced to pay for neo-Marxist schools (remember, all education is religious in nature)?  And why should any Christian contribute to such a system by sending their children to such schools at the expense of others?  And before you yell, “I’m just using the tax dollars I spent,” ask yourself if you’re willing to take advantage of all that abortion funding going to Planned Parenthood, or those tax dollars going toward fetal stem cell research.

2. Government Education is Anti-Christian

“I am as sure as I am of Christ’s reign that a comprehensive and centralized system of national education, separated from religion, as is now commonly proposed, will prove the most appalling enginery for the propagation of anti-Christian and atheistic unbelief, and of anti-social nihilistic ethics, individual, social and political, which this sin-rent world has ever seen.”  (A.A. Hodge)

Jesus made it quite clear when he said, “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” (Matthew 12:30 ESV).  I am amazed at how many Christians refuse to acknowledge this fact as it relates to the government school system.  Our education is either based on biblical truth, or some other ‘alleged truth.’  There is no such thing as neutrality in this regard.  All education is religious in nature.  Since it is illegal for students in our government schools to be taught from a Christian perspective, then it follows that they must be taught from a non (or anti) Christian perspective.

As Hodge pointed out, the result of non-Christian education is anti-Christian education.  Government schools must be anti-Christian.  They can be nothing else.  Therefore, to send a child to a government school is to have them trained in an anti-Christian environment for 14,000 instructional hours.  To get that much instruction from church a child would have to attend two hours a week for one hundred and forty years!

1. The Bible Commands Christ-Centered Education

“This whole process of education is to be religious, and not only religious, but Christian…. And as Christianity is the only true religion, and God in Christ the only true God, the only possible means of profitable education is the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” (Charles Hodge)

I recognize that educational antinomianism is the norm in the modern American church.  According to the common refrain, “It doesn’t matter what educational choice you make… you just have to pray about it and do what the Lord leads your family to do.”  However, I must confess I find this concept disturbing on a number of fronts.

First, this kind of thinking denies the sufficiency of Scripture.  The Bible speaks either directly, or principally to every aspect of life.  There are no grey areas.  Sure, there are things that are difficult to discern, but education is not one of them.  Though you won’t find the word ‘education’ in Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance, there are a number of passages that speak directly to the issue of training ourselves and our children intellectually, spiritually, philosophically and morally (See Deut. 6:6,7; Prov. 1:7; Eph. 6:4, etc).  We also have numerous warnings against allowing others to influence us intellectually, spiritually, philosophically, and morally (Psalm 1; Rom. 12:1,2; 2 Cor. 6:14ff; Col. 2:8, etc.).

Second, this line of reasoning smacks of mysticism.  Instead of making an argument with an open Bible we dismiss all opposition with the flippant, trite, overused, and theologically problem-laden phrase, “we prayed about it and this is what the Lord told us to do.”

The Lord ‘has spoken.’ (Heb. 1:1-2)  We are not awaiting new revelation.  Instead of doing what the Lord ‘told us,’ Christians are commanded to do what the Lord ‘has told us’ in His Word.

The London Baptist Confession speaks to this matter rather poignantly: “The Holy Scripture is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving Knowledge, faith and obedience; Although the light of Nature, and the works of creation and providence do so far manifest the goodness, wisdom and power of God, as to leave men unexcusable [sic.]; yet are they not sufficient to give that knowledge of God and His will, which is necessary unto salvation. Therefore it pleased the Lord at sundry times, and in divers manners, to reveal Himself, and to declare that His will untoHis Church; and afterward for the better preserving, and propagating of the truth, and for the more sure establishment, and comfort of the Church against the corruption of the flesh, and the malice of Satan, and of the World, to commit the same wholly unto writing; which maketh the Holy Scriptures to be most necessary, those former ways of Gods revealing His will unto His people being now ceased.”

The Cambridge Declaration states: “We reaffirm the inerrant Scripture to be the sole source of written divine revelation, which alone can bind the conscience. The Bible alone teaches all that is necessary for our salvation from sin and is the standard by which all Christian behavior must be measured.  We deny that any creed, council or individual may bind a Christian’s conscience, that the Holy Spirit speaks independently of or contrary to what is set forth in the Bible, or that personal spiritual experience [i.e., “the Lord told me”] can ever be a vehicle of revelation.”

There’s enough here for an entire series of posts (so many posts… so little time), but for now let me simply say that the “the Lord told me” line of argumentation has serious theological problems.  We must make our educational decisions with an open Bible.  “The Lord told me” is no substitute for ‘the Bible says!’  Please don’t make a decision about your child’s education without consulting (and obeying) the Scriptures.

Conclusion

How I long for voices like Hodge, Van Til, and Machen (who called government education a “soul-killing system”) to be heard among my Southern Baptist brethren.  However, with over eighty-five percent of our children in the government schools and more government school teachers and administrators than any other ‘denomination,’ it is highly unlikely that our side will prevail on this issue any time soon.  One wonders what the schools will have to do to our children before we are willing to acknowledge the folly of our choices.  In the meantime, I will continue to watch, fight, and pray, and try to convince as many of you as I can to liberate your children from Caesar’s indoctrination camps.

I have quoted John Wesley on this issue in previous posts.  However, his words are far too pertinent for me to ignore on this issue: “Let it be remembered, that I do not speak to the wild, giddy, thoughtless world, but to those that fear God.  I ask, then, for what end do you send you children to school?  Why? That they may be fit to live in the world? In which world do you mean, — this or the next? Perhaps you thought of this world only; and had forgot that there is a world to come; yea, and one that will last forever! Pray take this into your account, and send them to such masters as will keep it always before their eyes. Otherwise, to send them to [a government] school (permit me to speak plainly) is little better than sending them to the devil. At all events, then, send your boys [and girls], if you have any concern for their souls, not to any of the large public schools, (for they are nurseries of all manner of wickedness,) but private school, kept by some pious man, whoendeavours to instruct a small number of children in religion and learning together.”

I can’t help but wonder if people called Wesley divisive or extremist for making the aforementioned comments.  Perhaps not.  Perhaps they simply said, “That may be right for you, but it’s not what the Lord told us to do.”
